Why This Archive Exists

Some product information is surprisingly difficult to find.

Service manuals disappear. Manufacturers discontinue parts. Part numbers are incorrectly cross-referenced. Old forum posts contradict one another. Replacement-parts sellers sometimes list incorrect compatibility information. Valuable technical knowledge can become buried in discussions or disappear entirely.

This archive exists to preserve useful answers once they have been researched, documented, measured, or physically verified.

The focus is not information that can already be found easily. The focus is the obscure fact that took hours of research, original documentation, physical inspection, experimentation, or repair work to establish.

Evidence Standards

Entries should clearly distinguish between what is known and what is still uncertain.

VERIFIED

Supported by strong documentation and physically confirmed through inspection, measurement, installation, testing, or operation.

DOCUMENTED

Supported by authoritative documentation such as manufacturer service manuals, parts catalogs, technical bulletins, or other primary sources, but not physically verified by the contributor.

TESTED

Physically tested or measured successfully, but authoritative manufacturer documentation has not been located.

PROBABLE

Multiple pieces of evidence strongly support the information, but definitive documentation or physical verification is still lacking.

UNVERIFIED

Potentially useful information or a lead that has not yet been sufficiently confirmed.

Philosophy

Accuracy is more important than having an answer.

Whenever possible, entries identify the source of the information and distinguish manufacturer documentation from physical testing, secondary sources, and inference.

Incorrect information should be corrected when better evidence becomes available, while GitHub’s revision history preserves the history of those changes.

Contributing

Corrections and additional evidence are welcome.

When proposing a correction, please provide supporting evidence whenever possible, such as manufacturer documentation, photographs, measurements, part markings, or the results of physical testing.

The goal is simple: preserve the answer to a difficult question so the next person doesn’t have to solve it all over again.
